MAR KA

Poet Mar Ka writes from the foothills of Alaska's Chugach Mountains. Winner of the Midnight Sun Poetry Prize, recipient of an NEH grant, longtime poetry judge for the University of Alaska/ADN statewide Creative Writing Contest, her poems have been published in national and international journals. Her work as an indigenous rights attorney took her to some ninety of Alaska's two hundred-plus Alaska Native villages. She holds a journalism degree from Northwestern University, a J.D. from the University of Chicago, and an MFA from the Institute of American Indian Arts. She is of Lithuanian heritage.
